T20 World Cup – India and New Zealand All Set for Big Battle

March 15
14:21 2016

nzindNew Delhi, Tuesday, March 15 – Indian cricket fans must be on cloud nine these days and why not! Indian team has been in good form and the way they sealed series in opposition to Australia on their soil in the shortest format in January is adequate to boost confidence.

They registered victories in a row in Australia in T20 format. A 3-0 clean sweep is always good on the opponents especially when the squad played as a unit to forget bitter memory of losing ODI by 1-4. The level joy is immense among cricket lovers. They have all right to celebrate keeping in mind recent triumphs of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team in Asia Cup.  The world is familiar with potential housed by Indian cricketers. They rose on several occasions to help the team gain momentum before T20 World Cup matches start. Without a doubt, they have increased stature thanks to displaying talent to play cricket.

India must be basking in glory of success at present being on the winning side for more than a few times. They won all their matches in lately concluded Asia Cup. Hard work paid off then and it is the time to continue same good form. The efforts and practice in nets in the recent past can make them catch the eyes and win appreciation from all around by raising the bars against New Zealand in first game of Super 10. If truth be told then Dhoni and his boys must be aware of the fact that how dangerous the Black Caps can be in contest of the mega show. The Men In Blue would not like to face shameful defeat in home where supporters are ready to back them right from the beginning till end.

But a main question still haunts that was it India’s casual approach that let them see a defeat against South Africa during a warm-up match. Proteas have been playing cricket from so many years and are tough to beat every time. In fact, the experience and exposure of both India and South Africa on international platform is huge and humongous. Nevertheless, the host is supposed to make best use of each opportunity. Indian team in full of talent – a mix of both young & experienced cricketers. Confident play in the ongoing series will help them testing their abilities in opposition to talented squads in the Indian soil. Each Indian is keen to see whether India will be able to do what was done in 2007 World Cup, winning the Cup in the inaugural year by sending arch-rival Pakistan on the back foot.

Stint of Dhoni’s men in the tournament is expected to be long, taking into consideration the potential and attitude. A bunch of capable youngsters of India put best foot forward and made excellent use of minimal or no experience to let their team win matches. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah caught the eyes through dedicated play. Job on the shoulders of Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja, Ashish Nehra, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Mohammed Shami, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh will be huge. After winning the Asia Cup against Bangladesh in the grand finale, confidence of the team led by Dhoni is high. Pawan Negi needs to prove faith of his skipper right if given chance to play. Indian skipper is back in form too. Some brilliant sixes from him that went in the crowd changed whole story of the final, ending hopes for Bangladesh to win the Cup for the first time.

His captaincy will be of a meaning. Veteran bowlers in the team, along with some great fielders and batsmen make India stay a step ahead of New Zealand, if a comparison is made.  Wicket-taking deliveries by Bumrah have made the youngster be a threat for the opponents. He would surely terrify some of the New Zealand cricketers who are on tour of India with the motto to win the World Cup. Right attitude of the players and confidence boosting support from the Dhoni will motivate India to do well against the Kiwis.

The other team that must be a tad happy this time must be the Tigers, who qualified for Super 10 round along with Afghanistan. Pakistan and Sri Lanka were defeated at the hands of Bangladesh in Asia Cup to take powerhouses by surprise. Their victories can’t let opponents heave a sigh of relief. Participants of T20 WC wouldn’t like to be in the league of playing XIs who were surprisingly crushed by a team which is on track to establish themselves as a strong contestant. Best point with Bangladesh is that their fans have always supported them during all good and bad situations. Jam-packed stands in the Dhaka stadium indicated that the Tigers are going to get extensive support in upcoming contests as well. Given that Bangladesh had nothing to lose and this is perhaps why young cricketers made everyone familiar their talent whenever possible.

Focusing back on today’s match, it is the time for India to teach opponents a lesson to be remembered for a lifetime. That is not going to be any easy task since it is tough to win in limited overs when opponents are equally talented. Mitchell Mcclenaghan, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Mccullum, Ross Taylor, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Kane Williamson, Luke Ronchi, Martin Guptill, Grant Elliott, Henry Nicholls, Ish Sodhi, Adam Milne, Colin Munro and Corey Anderson are able to outstandingly perform.

As a matter of fact, challenges are no less for Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team even though they play in home conditions. They need to keep the calm and leave no stone unturned to gain foothold right from the onset of the contest. Bowlers would require restricting Kiwis on a low total if they get to field first. Amazing fielding skills of Jadeja, Sharma, Pandya, Dhawan, Raina and Kohli will be of great use. It will be interesting to note who make their appearance count and who fail to do that.

India need to put pressure on the minds of openers, middle and lower-order batsmen of New Zealand. If the home side tries to play fearlessly, half of the job will be done. In the cricket carnival of the shortest format, half-hearted efforts couldn’t be accepted in any condition. India don’t need to let pressure build on them.  New Zealand are all set too. All preparations at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur have been done to host the match, which is to begin at 7:30 in the evening. No matter how good Kiwis are, India are also strong and could compel rivals fall flat soon after holding the fort. Weather conditions and toss will be essential. Both teams expect to play under clear sky so that threat of D/L method doesn’t loom at all.
