zimNew Delhi, Friday, November 11 – Tri-Series in Zimbabwe is to start from November 17 and end on November 27. Any series having more than two teams is always an area of interest for the cricket fans. Sri Lanka and West Indies are keen to do well on their tour of Zimbabwe. The hosts know it very well too that it could be a perfect chance for them to showcase amazing show.

Despite the fact that failures were often faced by Zimbabwe who hosted a number of series this year, experienced earned from previous matches could be of much use. Sri Lanka squad is to be captained by Upul Tharanga. Those eying to perform well in the overseas are Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Nuwan Pradeep, Asela Gunaratne, Shehan Jayasuriya, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lahiru Kumara, Kusal Mendis, Suranga Lakmal, Kusal Perera, Sachith Pathirana, Lakshan Sandakan, Jeffrey Vandersay and Dasun Shanaka.

At the same time, West Indies team will play under the captaincy of Jason Holder. Those in the squad are Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Johnson Charles, Ashley Nurse, Rovman Powell, Miguel Cummins and Shane Dowrich. Zimbabwe squad is yet to be announced. Harare Sports Club in Harare and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo are to host seven matches. The opening match is to take place between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. The second game will take place between West Indies and Sri Lanka.

West Indies and the hosts are to play in the third match. A similar sequence is to be followed in the fourth, fifth and sixth match. The two teams with number of wins in their pocket will contest in the final match, which is to take place on Sunday, November 27. West Indies can’t think of being on the safe side. Humiliating defeats at the hands of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in ODI and Test format must be fresh in their mind as it hasn’t been so many days that this has happened. Latest defeats despite having strong players always hurt. The only relief was felt when last Test was won by West Indies at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah against Pakistan, who sealed series 2-1.

Sri Lanka are tough contenders and the rivals are aware about this. But since a lot of things changes in the game, each team has equal opportunity to give their best. Support for the hosting nation is going to be huge. Zimbabwe know it very well that to get continuous support from the cricket fans, it will be important for them to show some good match right from the beginning of the series. Losing the match from start may let them get behind and weaken chances of qualifying in the finals. Pitch conditions and weather may be of some help to Zimbabwe but eyes can’t be shut to the fact that other two cricket playing nations could also get familiar with the same soon.
