Pakistan in Do or Die Situation as England Look to Seal Series in Nottingham

August 30

pkNew Delhi, Tuesday, August 30 – Pakistan tour of England is turning out to be more challenging with each passing match. Since the previous two matches have been lost by the visitors, the home side romped to a lead of 2-0 in the series. Taking their current form into consideration, it is anticipated that they make opponents feel the heat in coming days too. The tourists need to strengthen the batting to stay competitive in the ongoing series that will be of huge help in future as well.

It may be said that Pakistan were a little bit unfortunate to lose the first ODI at The Rose Bowl in Southampton as England won it by 44 runs according to D/L method. They scored 260 runs for the loss of six wickets. If truth be told then batting of Pakistan wasn’t too impressive. Showers interrupted the play, then stopped. It further returned and consumed the rest of the overs to make D/L method to come into picture. Jason Roy, who received Man of the Match, award for scoring 65 runs in 56 deliveries, caught the eyes as it was a lot of hard work behind what he did when expected from him.

Azhar Ali of Pakistan scored 82 runs but his innings went into vain as others, except Babar Azam and Sarfraz Ahmed, did not succeed to play confidently. In the game two at Lord’s in London on Saturday, August 27, Pakistan faced defeat by four wickets as the target of 252 runs set by them was chased by England in 47.3 overs. Poor batting by the top order and tail-ender batsmen added pressure on the visitors. Thanks to an innings of 105 runs by Sarfraz Ahmed, and 63 by Imad Wasim, 30 runs by Babar Azam and 28 runs by Shoaib Malik, Pakistan were able to put a modest total on the scoreboard.

Since sharpness in bowling was also missed by Pakistan, England were able to take unassailable lead of 2-0, putting the rivals in do or die situation. It will be crucial for Pakistan to come up with a working solution at Trent Bridge in Nottingham if they want to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. Here is to mention that it is not for the first time when Pakistan players are facing up and down situation. Even during the Test matches, pressure shifted on them after England logged back to back wins in 2nd and 3rd Tests. However, overcoming unwanted stress, they focused on a fresh start at Kennington Oval in London and made England face unexpected defeat by 10 wickets.

Here is to describe that a victory by bigger margin like this is always ample to spur cricketers who eye excellence further. But ODI is a different format from the Test and so far, the travellers are facing real problem in the English conditions. Now, 3rd One Day International match between England and Pakistan has turned decisive. It is must for Pakistan to bounce back and save series. Pakistan fans do not want that series is lost when most of the players in Pakistan camp are capable of delivering their best. Pakistan houses the potential to be on the victorious end.

On one hand, England squad will have Eoin Morgan, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Jordan, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Joe Root and Mark Wood, while on the other hand, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Azhar Ali, Yasir Shah, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Sarfraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz, Sami Aslam, Sharjeel Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Imad Wasim will make Pakistan look better than before. Despite the fact that the desired lead has gone into the pockets of English cricket team, making them hold a strong spot post victories in the opening and second ODI matches, Pakistan may let everyone see the positive change.

The visiting team may manage to gain pace bit by bit and put forward some indescribable play. A few players from Pakistan can make sure to send the ball towards the fences whenever possible and do England players do some running on the field over and over again. Maybe, best is yet to come. After all, cricket is enjoyed for its uncertainty. Since only a few hours are left for the third ODI to start, players of both sides are getting geared up to send rivals under the pump. Viewers will hope for sky to remain clear as no interruption from rains is liked when the match is in progress.

Pakistan got to win today’s match and the next contest too to level series 2-2. It is going to be a tough task but not impossible. Inspiration can be taken from the competitive side who did well in Test series by winning two Tests in a row. It was not even easy for them to start the 50-50 over game series with wins after facing defeat at the hands of Pakistan in last Test. But they did it due to belief in self. Since all preparations well under way at Trent Bridge, players and fans are ready for the next mega show.
