On November 11th, the Ministry of Education of China hosted a press conference for the 6th China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) in Beijing, with relevant data of the Competition being announced as well as the preparations for the finals and event arrangement being introduced.

With the theme of “Dare to Differ, Dare to Win,” this Competition put forward the requirements of “more international, more educational, more comprehensive, more innovative, and more Chinese”. The number of entries and number of contestants has reached a new high, with a total of 1.47 million entries and 6.31 million contestants of 4186 colleges and universities from 177 countries and regions. Statistics indicate that more than half of the world’s top 100 universities have signed up for the competition, including University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Harvard University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Technical University of Munich, Moscow Bauman State Technical University, and many other top universities, which significantly boost the quality of the Competition.

Having been successfully held five times since 2015, the 6th Competition drew more than 15 million students and 3.74 million teams, and it gradually became the world’s largest innovation and entrepreneurship competition for college students. This year, the word “International” was officially added to the Competition’s title, signifying an ardent invitation to the world-renowned universities overseas to actively participate in the Competition. This Competition also intended to establish a transnational platform for rivalry, collaborations, and cultural exchanges, as well as to host an event featuring both innovation and entrepreneurship for the youths around the globe.

Reports said that the finals of the Competition will be held at South China University of Technology on November 17th-21st. The Competition composes a “1+6” series of activities, in which “1” refers to the main event, and the “6” represents six concurrent activities including resource matchmaking, the exhibition of innovations and entrepreneurship of college students, the forum on the higher education in the world bay area, global unicorn fair, face-to-face with young scholars all over the world, and many other scientific and cultural exchange activities. Affected by the pandemic, projects of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan will not come to the site for the session of international projects competition, and thus the Competition initiates a combination of online and offline contests, creating a new way to hold international competition under the epidemic conditions.
